Video Critique...any suggestions?

Unread postby theczar » Tue Jan 16, 2007 6:40 pm

here is my 15-1 jump from my meet last friday...

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 0447&hl=en

I jumped 15-7 at Bell's camp the week before, and that was our first meet. I know the top is a bit sloppy, but besides that do you guys have any suggesions? I have a big meet in Arkansas this weekend and I want to bring my A-game!

thanks!

Few observations:

Your pole carry is not ideal...your top hand is behind you and it's not the most efficient run. That breaks down your posture when it's time to plant. Your take-off is more than likely under b/c I see the pole bend before you leave the ground. However you have a good swing to inversion, could be faster b/c when the pole unbends towards vertical you're not in the best position to take advantage.

Pole Drop is way too soon, and yes you seem under! Great mechanics on takeoff though, I love how much you allow your chest to drive after you leave the ground! I would also say that on top you need to hold you legs in the verticle position more. You do something which causes them to fall off too soon, which pulls you off the pole cord and doesn't allow you to ge the most out of your jump! Overall good first season jump

From the first step, the pole tip is too low. Top hand needs to be on your hip and bottom hand in the center of your chest. Your hands drift back immediately, probably to support the pole that's too low. You get up to speed too quickly. It'll be hard to consistently hit a mid and takeoff doing that. Your takeoff is surprisingly good consider how inefficient everything is before it! Imagine what it'd be like if you fix your pole carry and run. Improving your technique on the ground will improve your technique in the air.

thanks guys!

I've known my pole carry isn't the best...but I've been working on so many other things I never got around to fixing that...

I think that is what I'm going to focus on now. Judging by what you all are saying, if I improve the run I'll consequently improve the jump, right?

The top end of your vault is pretty nice, especially considering the flaws that come before it. Clean up the run and takeoff and you'll be in good shape.
