Finally put some videos up

Unread postby Flying D » Thu May 11, 2006 10:35 pm

hey everyone i finally uploaded a couple videos from a meet early in the season. Just wondering if anyone has any advice for me. Althought i am on a new pole now and it is later in the season, everything i am doing is pretty much the same and i am not clearing much more than 12-12'6 right now. Any help? Thanks

Besides a lot of issues early in the vault. The biggest one I see that is limiting your height on that pole is your inability to be patient

You need to stay with the pole longer. As it stands your hips barely get above your shoulders and your already starting to pull with your top arm.

keep is straight longer till you start your turn. As it stands your hands are moving back towards the runway and you come off like a flag.

Patience man. Don't be a little bull in a china closet up there. Finish one segment of the vault and move on. As it stands your rushing it in an attempt to clear the bar. The only way to clear higher ones is to stop looking at the bar and let your hips raise.

Your trying to turn way to soon. Get to your back and hands to your waist then turn THEN BREAK THE TOP ARM>

k i had my divisional meet today, but i am still stuck at 12 feet. i have included jumps at 11 feet, 12, then a 12'6 miss. I moved up to a bigger pole on the 12'6, went from a 14'160 to a 14'6 160.

I know i am still not getting verticle and my hips arent getting up, but my coach told me it is because i am not letting my bottom arm break into my body, but its just staying away. I can kind of see it in the videos, but can anyone elaborate more on this and how i might be able to fix it? thanks

Your takeoff looks pretty good, and you drive in very well with your chest. However, your swing could be started earlier I think and it needs to continue past where you are swinging to. You also need to break your bottom arm and stop blocking out, which would allow your shoulders to drop. With that arm locked out, you're never gonna jump over your handgrip.

yeah you have a good plant but your swing needs to last longer.

and in your rockback you need to contiunue to get back on the pole and wait on the pole, while you are waiting you are trying the get back to get vertical. if you know what I mean

I had the same problem at the beginning of the season I've improved drastically...just stick to a short run and a smaller pole and you'll get it soon enough.
