You have a lot of speed and that's going to do a lot for you. When you plant you need to jump up!All your speed will get you your penetration now you just need to jump up and plant high. This will make it easier for you to transition into the vertical position you need to use your pole bend.

Hey Brandon, nice to see you're trolling PVP and researching the topics I mentioned to you!

When I first read this post of yours, I thought I read "... you need to use to bend your pole". However, I now realize that you HAVE stated this correctly, so I can relax now.

I was going to say: Remember that PV is not pole BENDING - it's pole VAULTING!

But you know this! (Others may not, or may misread your post just as I did at first.)

What you said is a round about way of saying that if you plant high and jump up (in this order! Or is it?) then you will SWING to vertical better, and that will put your body in the right (vertical) position to use your pole bend. That's 100% correct.

In addition to getting a better swing, the other good reason for driving up and into the pole on takeoff is to stretch your body into the right posture so that you can start your swing more vigorously - meaning faster and with more oomph!

This is the main difference between a 14-3 vaulter and a 16-3 vaulter. :)

Oomph! Ya, real technical PV term, eh? :D

Out of curiousity, I wondered if anyone else on PVP ever used the term oomph.

Turns out that I'm the only one, so maybe it's a Canuck term.

If you want to know what I mean by oomph, search for "kirk oomph".

Kirk,
Yes haha I pretty much follow everything in the dvd "from beginner to bubka and isenbyeva too!" which taught me that the bend is a result of the speed and momentum of the vaulter. And back when there was no bend the focus was on moving the pole to vertical. So same focus should be applied when there is a bend. :) When I see vaulters at my competitions trying to bend the pole themselves usually with little to no speed I know it is just an accident waiting to happen. Usually taking off very under as well.
