Take off-mid mark-start point
So this last half of the season i have started using the mid mark chart from Oneapproachrun.com and it has worked alright. Although i am fairly short at 5'5 and have a shorter stride length than most. With my grip of 12'10 my take off is at 10' like the chart says. But my mid mark is 41'6 instead of 42 which a guy put me at. And i figured that how he got that number was my take off 10' plus 10'6"x3 my stride length my last 3 lefts and that gets you 41 1/2'. Then add 7,8,9,and 10 to that and u get 75'6" my start point. Of course my start point is varies due to wind and so on. But i was wondering how i should figure my mid mark for each grip. I start normal with a 12'10" grip, take off 10', and mid 41'6". If i go to my next grip of 13'2 then my take off is 10'4" or 10'5" so how should i figure my mid? Just move it back those same 4 or 5 inches? And adjust my start point to hit that mid.
Re: Take off-mid mark-start point
good morning,
The way you are describing what your doing doesn't seem totally clear to me…
But I think your "MID" point is reasonable with the numbers you gave. The main purpose is to give you a reference point so you are not over "chopping" and, mainly, NEVER stretching or too far out at the "MID". You want to be able to "quicken" the last strides to a "jump"/impulse takeoff.
You are correct in that you want to "adjust" your start point to hit reasonably close to your "MID".
The easiest and simplest way I have found is to "runback" from your "MID".. if you are on a 7 left/14 stride approach.. the "MID" is 3 lefts or 6 strides.. you need to runback 4 lefts or 8 steps…
As you run faster, without stretching, your "MID" should move out proportionately as your grip moves up…..

Re: Take off-mid mark-start point
Alright that makes sense. I was just simply adding 7,8,9, and 10ft to my mid for my next for lefts. But running back from your mid makes more sense or just moving back according to it. Like if my mid goes from 41'6" to 42' then take my start back 6" as well. So my mid mark and take off should move back consistantly? For every inch back my take off is my mid is moved the same distance back? And also because i am shorter than average im guessing my take off marks will vary from the chart?

hye
the takeoff is an average... just make sure you don't stretch... and takeoff as vertical to the top grip as possible..
many, many times when someone is continously under it is because they are stretching... so instead of moving "out" when you are under... move up and cut your strides for a better "jump" takeoff....
