Getting into rockback position

I vault with a 15ft pole gripping at 14 ft, and there's a severe problem with my rockback which i cant fix. Everytime I try to rockback, my feet are the first to swing up towards the top of the pole leaving my body in a V-shape and making it impossible to fully extend my body to vertical. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
There's also a dilemma i have whether i should use core muscles to swing up, or as my coach tells me to, row at the shoulders toward the left hip.
