I vault with a 15ft pole gripping at 14 ft, and there's a severe problem with my rockback which i cant fix. Everytime I try to rockback, my feet are the first to swing up towards the top of the pole leaving my body in a V-shape and making it impossible to fully extend my body to vertical. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
There's also a dilemma i have whether i should use core muscles to swing up, or as my coach tells me to, row at the shoulders toward the left hip.
National schools championships are next thursday and I'm really starting to panic! thanks!

Re: Getting into rockback position
Do you have video? Like I tell everyone, it all starts with your run, plant, and take-off. As for your swing, you are engaging every muscle in your body. I think you are focusing to much on your arms instead of trying to swing long, so you are losing your hips. To solve your dilemma you use both core and your arms to swing. But you dont pull while doing this. Same motion as if you are swinging on a high bar.I had a similar problem and so I started thinking about keeping my hips tight as I swing.

also make sure in your take off that you are keeping a long extended trail leg and high knee drive because then when you hold that trail leg back it is almost like a rubber band and shoots your legs up first then as your left arm starts to break down your hips follow. this is a problem i had associated with my plant. little things mean alot.
