How to get off the top

Unread postby chuckd1356 » Sun May 11, 2008 6:05 am

So I'm on a 13' pole, holding at the top of it. I jumped 11' on it in practice. It's really soft.

I'm having trouble with getting off of the top of the pole. My swing up is ok, and I'm getting better at timing it right, but I never can manage to explode my feet upwards. You know? Instead of extending vertically I stay with my feet at eye level...

How can I do this?

BTW, tried the search, and let it run for a good 10minutes, but it never loads.

As for the search feature, send a pm to becca about it; because there are definitely threads on here about it. Since we live in America: Land of Instant Gratification however, I will give you a short but sweet response. Do Bubka Drills. This involves hanging on either a pull up bar or high bar (we use the top support bar of the squat cages in the school weight room. Grip the bar like you would a pole, swing up to where you have your feet directly over your hands and from there thrust the hips vertically upward and the shoulders down so the body is perpendicular to the ground (repeat). Hope that helps.
What is nice about this sport is that I am responsible for most everything.

Whenever you are having trouble with the built-in search feature, just go to google.com, type in whatever you are looking for, then add site:polevaultpower.com

Lower your grip until you can at least clear as high as you are gripping.

Today I was getting 11' holding about 6" above it.

We tried and tried, but I never can seem to do it right.

I'm moving to a stiffer pole though. Because I'm just crunching the one I'm on now, and if I push too much on it, it just bends out and I don't go upwards.
