Unread postby Haverford123 » Fri Apr 27, 2007 10:08 am

sorry if there was a post earlier regardingthis but
i was wondering why coaches advise their vaulters to keep the
standards between 24 - 30,,, for some reason i generally
keep the standards at 18 but sometimes even need 15.5,,
i was wondering how can i fix this problem?

The standards are back there for safety reasons. You should not be hitting the bar at 24 or farther at your current development. Drop your grip two fingers at a time until you can clear a bar with the standards at 26 or 28...

The last reply makes a good point. You should be getting into the mat. Vaulters should never, especially in high school, have their standards closer than 18". It means you are not turning the pull over and that you are either holding too high, not jumping, not running fast enough, or a combination of all three. Remember, PV is your basic physics experiment. Maybe this will get you through that always dreaded high school physics course. Good luck!
