inversion problems

Unread postby Messiah62 » Thu Apr 19, 2007 7:41 pm

I know i need to get upside down but i just cant get my left arm to break in... its just not working for me. all my coaches say i could get really high if i got upside down. I press my pole the whole way. ive tried breaking my arm but for some reason it wont come in ever. I feel like i have no chance of getting upside down.. it happens all really fast. When i do pop ups though i can get upside down really easy just not with my big poles...

any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Just for kicks try to touch your left hip to the top of the pole while doing swing drills..........

think of bringing your lower hand to the left side of your stomach. its impossible if you dont break it in. just hit it, and bring it in as fast as you can..
good luck

You are really not supposed to "Block" with your arms anyway. If your takeoff is correct, the pole will bend the same. Try learning with a shorter pole, running from fewer steps, and look up "continuous chain model" for more info.

What my coach has me do is a drill called "vault for distance." For this you must have pads behind your standard pit if you don't wanna kill yourself though. The drill involves vaulting on very small poles from 4 lefts to try to get as far into the pit as possible. The small pole rolls over easily and allows you to get completely inverted without having to get completely perpendicular to the ground. What the drill does is it allows you to become familiar with the feeling of having the pole give you something back once you reach the top of your vault. Once you get this down, increase the pole size until you can do it on your regular poles.
