I just don't think that it is really possible to jump straight up when carrying speed.

I didn't realize that I had the answer all along. I just took another look at the evaluation I got from camp and who would have guessed it, one of the points was that I need to improve my takeoff angle. Based on this video http://media.putfile.com/Pole-Vault-Camp and the other jumps I took that week. Luckily outdoor starts in just 11 days.

ya i have to agree the hole reason for running is to run fast and get on a big pole and to make it easier to make that take off go foward and not just up

but i see where you are coming from....some people may read this and only worry about jumping up. It is still important to transfer the energy of your speed and jump into the pole.

It seems when i try to increase my take-off angle by jumping up the pole un-bends Much faster, too fast for me to get any swing in time. Should i just keep my take-off angle high and learn to swing faster or am i just an idiot and this shouldnt have anything to do with the speed a pole unbends.

with your take off being higher, the bend will be less i would think, look at brian's tiawan vid from the usa elite forum. it takes while to download, but the jumps are great indication that you don't need a huge pole bend to jump high. more on this later.

definitely true with the higher plant angle, the less bend because the pole doesn't have to travel as far to get vertical in the jump.

If he is also a geography teacher, I bet he teaches his students that the earth is flat! :crying:
