How do i go inverted faster?

Unread postby leftist vaulter » Mon Apr 30, 2007 9:36 pm

ok, this is my first year pole vaulting, and I have found myself stuck at my PR of 11' 2'' for quite some time... I realize that my problem is that I dont go inverted fast enough. Is there anyone with advice on this topic. Could the problem be my trail leg?

One thing that you should know about pole vaulting is that progression is not often linear. What that means is that there will be times when you don't go any higher, and then other times you'll improve drastically.

That being said, it's always a good thing to be seeking to make improvements. If you want to get inverted faster, you can work on some pole vault specific ab work. Rockbacks on a high bar are great. Once you've got those down, add in some bubka's. Regular ab work (and back as well) is important to your development.

Good luck!

I know what you mean by the non-linear progression...sucks at times, but when you do make that HUGE jump you love it!

From what I've been told, it's very important to have a nice long and extended trail leg and swing to inversion.
