Where take off step should be

Unread postby Jungm1420 » Thu Apr 26, 2012 7:09 pm

Ok. So all season i have thought my take off was way under. Normally i would get my grip and stand with the pole in the box with my body up to my hand in a striaght line as where my step should be is what i thought. He told me today from where i was to take a normal walking step forward and thats where it should be. Because when you extend both arms up and are getting that bend in the pole your step has to be closer. Is this right? Because if it is then my step has been fine all along an i didnt know it!

There are varying opinions on take off step. If you look at most top vaulters, their take off foot is directly under their top hand with top hand extended at the plant and take off foot/knee raised up off the ground.

Ok. So i am currently using a 13' 150 pole. But my takr off is under causing that premature and low bend. I want to achieve a free take off where your toe leaves the ground as u jump and the pole hits the back of the box. Will i have to move back to a lighter pole while doing this? I only weigh 130.

hello

the takeoff toe should be directly below an imaginary line droped from the hand grip...
