skip run
I've been seeing a lot of college vaulters doing some kind of skip in their run. They do it at the beginning of their run. They're second left has a little jump in it. I was just wondering if this helps build speed and if it's worth trying out.

Re: skip run
Some people think it gives them a bit of a pep in their step, and it will make you faster because you run from farther, however so will just adding another left to your run. I think any kind of skip just builds inconsistency because most people can not do it the exact same way every single time.

Re: skip run
Ditto on it being inconsistent.

Re: skip run
As an official sitting at the vaulter's start, I watch this skip routinely. Seldom if ever does the vaulter come down where their starting mark is. Seldom if ever do they come down in the same spot every vault.
A skip at the start does not maximize the vaulter's ability to consistently start on the same mark.

Re: skip run
hello
their should NEVER be a skip.... you are ultimately going to be slower AND inconsistant....
the skip is the "body' intuitively trying to get the athlete in position to "impluse"/jump at the takeoff..
simply means the steps are "off"...
