Re: Pole Choice
I saw this link on the training thread.http://www.losseveter.nl.php5-7.dfw1-1.%20...%20n-Tamminga Great stuff. It looks like most of it will be a real booger to do. If you can work towards doing these gymnastic drills, they would help you a bunch. Look through the training and technique threads and check out the many video links posted. then get into the gym and try to do them. When working indoors, if I'm hearing you right, you are forced to do short run drills. These are great for working on certain technical aspects of your jump. Start taking videos of what you do, then find a video of a similar drill on PVP and compare the two. Work on making you do what the other guy is doing. Hope you know what I mean by this. Good luck, have a productive "pre-outdoor" period and we'll talk more in the spring. Later...........Mike

That link's broken, but you can get there from here: http://www.polevaultpower.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=18975&p=136197.
Yeh, great gymnastic drills!
Some of these Dutch vaulters are quite advanced (especially the coach - Chris Taminga), but don't despair ... just try to emulate them the best you can.

Re: Pole Choice
Unfortunately we only have access to the school gym. A lot of exercises can be done their but not as many as the gym such as in the video. If I am going to do those ill have to do it on my own time. Maybe ill pitch the idea to one of my buddies who also pv's. I'm sure a spotter is a necessity for attempting these exercises plus it'll be better than me going by myself. I'll let you know if I do end up going, for now it looks like i'll have to go to the school gym and do some exercises. Anything particular that i can do with weights?

Re: Pole Choice
Go to http://www.myspace.com/mikesoulewyomingmn and watch the videos. Those are pole vault specific exercises. Keep in mind the video is for old guys getting back into vaulting so the weights should be a little different for you. Reps will be fine as presented on the video. Another thing is to adapt what you see to what you have access to. Example of this would be if you don't have a weight bench to do bench presses, a correct push up is 2/3rds your body weight. Likewise the same applies to the video. You may not have the equipment to do those exercises, but after watching them, you should be able to figure out what muscles each one is working and do a similar exercise. Good Luck................Mike
