When you vault do you land pretty deep in the pit? If so, you're probably jumping over the bend of the pole which is good, it would mean you are ready for a longer pole.

The other thing is that older Skypoles are pretty stiff. Does it have a yellow sticker on the middle that talks about BestFlex? If so, it is probably more like an 11'140. If it's so old it doesn't even have that, it's probably like a 150 or stiffer.

I wouldn't worry so much about bending the pole. Just focus on improving your technique and it will happen naturally. If you're trying to bend the pole you are doing something wrong.

I don't think that It has a yellow label. The pole is 11ft dark green color 130lb. I land maybe 4 feet from the pit. It seems when I was vaulting today and the other vaulters agree that I kick both my legs up quickly instead of thrusting my right knee up than bringing my trail leg up slowly.

I think what they are trying to tell you is that your swinging right off the ground which is not pushing the pole forward into the pit. Try to hold your takeoff position for a split second longer and then start swinging. This will help you land deeper into the pit.

Like everyone else had stated, bending the pole will come naturally with the correct take off position and grip on a pole.

And a video would be awesome so people can see exactly what you are doing wrong.

Totally agree, hard to sit over the bar when you are completely inverted. Apparatus drills are great if you have the space and resources to use one, it teaches the turn perfectly. :)

If you have a pull up bar in the weight room or a squat rack for the football team those should work as well; thats what we use when we don't have a high bar available.

HAHA Vaulting in cold weather, oh the memories... Um try to stay as warm as possible, jogging before jumps to stay warm, layering properly, blankets, warm up suits, etc etc. Pole wise I've found that jumping on carbons is easier in the cold, I don't know about your access to them or experience with them, but thats what I've found. Any other opinions?

our school doesn't have any of the nice poles we have only 10-15+
year old skypoles and the only way we can get new ones is when they break.
TRACK MEET IS CANCELLED!
