I don't trust my mark

This is a forum to discuss pole vault technique as it relates to intermediate level pole vaulting.

I agree with Glory on this one. If you miss your mid mark, your plant will be off. I recommend that you try going down a couple of grips on the pole and slowly work your way back up and using a mid mark to keep yourself in check. If your mid mark is far enough back that someone can check to see if you hit it right, you will be able to stop before the pit so you dont waste an attempt. also doing simple running drills with the pole and a slide box can help you with hitting your mark every time too, that way you dont have to worry about missing the box or getting hurt in the long run because if you are too soon or too late the most that will happen is the box will either move when the pole hits it or you will miss it and thats it, no major injuries.

I agree with much of the above, always have people grab your mid, and step or your outside left and your step (if your a lefti grab your out side right). When I run through my step is generally a foot under.

Learn and know your 'magic number' (I stole term from a camp, Chad Harting held it) This is your stride, it stays fairly constant when running. Generally it is about double your height. I am 5' 10â€
