Pole vaulters on the North Branch High School track team won Board of Education approval of $8,810 worth of safety pads, crossbars and other related equipment.
Vaulter David Verellen told board members that track team members have to drive to Marlette twice a week to practice and that the school cannot offer vaulting as part of a home track meet.
In addition to the equipment, board members approved a $675 purchase of two vaulting poles.
Jim Fish, assistant principal and athletic director, said Verellen and other team members put together a formal proposal, which Superintendent Al Piwinski presented to the board Monday.
"We'll be equipped now to practice and hold events at the school," Fish said.
