2 of the 5 male vaulters at our local high school also run hurdles.
I went to a small high school in Maine, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
I graduated at 5'-10" and 145#, was a self taught vaulter, had no coaching till late in my senior year, I didn't gain any height from that 1 2hour clinic at UNH. I never considered my size a variable. My junior year, one of my team mates took 4 1st places at the states (100 yd, long jump triple jump, high hurdles) Billy was 5'-7"! The following year as a freshman at college, he tried pole vaulting for the 1st time and was able to clear 13' his 1st practice. He ended up as the New England Decathalon Champion that year.
I was able to vault, 11' with a stiff pole (good enough for 7th in the state in 1978), int. hurdles at 42.4, high hurdles at 17.2, high jumped 5'-11"
I grew up near a set of rail road tracks and frequently ran on the rail road ties for training. I think that helped tremendously with having a controlled stride on all the events I competed in.
PV to hurdles?
