Donetsk Feb 11

Good Morning.
What does everyone expect for the meeting in Donetsk on Feb 2? We all watched Walker go all nimbly bimbly over 5.80m this week by a foot in Reno. He is the clear favorite for the W in DSK with SB watching on as he takes cracks at that WR.
But could we see the return of LZB indoors, and that patented 4.40m takeoff on 4.90m poles? We all know that DSK features one of the fastest raised board runways in the world, which of course favors LZB's style, but BW displayed this weekend that he's no stranger grabbin' the boards by the horns and takin' em for a ride.
Also in the picture is Starodubstev, but he won't have his favorite 3" rollout mat to take off of, so who knows what to expect from him. Will SB figure out a way to weight the comp toward the EU contendors??
Let it rain, let it PV Storm.

Good afternoon,
In reply to PVstorm, I do believe Skywalker is a deffinate contender. However, to have a world record shot he will need to jump on the "WR" runway. In the past this has been given to the girls to jump on. But who knows maybe Bubka will forget which one it is and give the guys some magic. LZB on the other hand, I think, is very unlikely to leave the sun and his father's cigar factory, which he manages in the winter, to travel to the frozen Ukraine. Possible.
And Holly? Let's not forget about the women. Are we going to see a show down between the young gun and The Russian queen? I'm guessing no, Holly aint't scared but I think someone else would pull out. Based on the YouTube footage there is out there, there will be another WR in contention. Will Holly be the first pole dancer to be knighted by her majesty? A new WR could make that a reality. We Yanks are pulling for you Ms. Sir Bleasdale.

Donetsk is Feb 11... if Brad jumps like he did in Reno, no one will touch him. I don't see Holly getting a WR, but I do think she has a good chance of beating Isinbayeva. This is on of Isi's favorite places to jump, so it probably won't be a cakewalk... Looking forward to it! Steve Chappell will be filming, so we may not get live updates (hope we do!!), but we will get quality video after the fact.

Brad Walker's 5.80 jump was indeed impressive, but I think one shouldn't shelve Renaud Lavillenie for this competition, he'll be coming back from minor injury with massive hunger and a brand new set of 5.20 poles...great competition ahead !
For once, I have to slightly disagree with Becca, I do think Isi's WR is under threat this year, as Holly Bleasdale showed last week very easy jumps at 4.80 and 4.87 with a shortened (14 instead of 16) run-up (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-vXuRZqDrc ) and could come up with even higher jumps with a few centimeters more in grip. I am however not sure she will compete in Donetsk, since she said she will jump from full approach at UK trials, which are the 12th of february...

Good evening.
Let's extrapolate Holly B's 16 and 18 step PB's. From 12 - 4.71m, From 14 - 4.87m. Makes 16cm. This means 16 - 5.03 and from 18 - 5.19m. I have calculated these numbers carefully and they are concrete. It looks as if Isi might as well wave her patented russian goodbye to her WR.
But what will we see from the Suhr crew this weekend? Has Rick gotten it right in her preparation to send her over 5m?
As far as Lav, I don't think 5.20m poles are the key to him making 6.10m or higher. BW will take the W in Donetsk.
Thank you. In Donetsk it will be a PV ICE STORM, and my predictions will be good.

Battle of the boards is what this meet should really be called.
With Lazaro "the boards" Borges, or LZB, ready to set the pv world on fire again, will Bubka bring in some more competition and sign the check to bring out the one and only Bjorn Otto? We all know that last year Bjorn pulled the high salt out of his bag to jump a 5.81 in Landau and earn a spot on the world team only to have it later taken away because the meet was not up to code.
And then there's Brad Skywalker. Like Luke returning from the swamps Degoba to go do work on Jabba the Hutt's sail barge on Tatooine, it's...about...to...go...down!
FYI, marks from Jacob Pauli are emerging, looks like the body building career has been put on hold. Hang on tight y'all!
A-toocloseformisslesswitchingtoguns-Stryke out!

I see what you're saying here and I'd like to agree with you, because you're right. A better analysis would be translating her numbers at the mid mark using a chart. If we only had the numbers...and.. a chart. we could solve this puzzle.
Is Jenn's sub-freezing temperatures training going to pay off? (see video in elite section) Ever since the Chernobyl fall out of 1986, much of the Ukraine has turned away from heating sources other than traditional log burning. Seeing as how the building there is quite large, the athletes may see temperatures below the norm. and therefor I see her at a great advantage. The "Suhr-rocky" approach might just be the ticket to take down the Soviet Union and their advanced techniques.
