I'm traveling again and watched an Italian Club? Meet last night on Rai Sport2. They had several events going on, women's TJ, some relays, men's 800m etc..
The women's vault was going on and i was pleasantly surprised that they showed 5 girls, almost every jump from 3.90 to 4.35..
Great stuff... i think i did notice that after most jumps, at least on some of the best jumps (a couple of them had some air on 4.25/4.30) they went up poles every time for the next height.
Several jumps they didn't over bend and could have easily help higher and still moved the pole and gotten air.
I think this actually held them back and never let them get in a "grove".
That seems to be the "mentality" now days to our determent.
I feel top vaulters should be capable of getting on the right pole after a couple of jumps and then simply move the grip and standards to match up with what you have in the tank (speed) for that day to move the pole to vertical.
