London, 13 August 2010
Polish champion Lukasz Michalski was a surprise winner of a competition badly effected by a torrential downpour. Several big-name competitors made a premature exit from the competition.

The pre-event favourite and Samsung Diamond League leader Renuad Lavillenie struggled to find his rhythm in the difficult conditions and the French athlete surprisingly failed to negotiate his opening height at 5.51m.

Australia’s Olympic and world champion Steve Hooker, who has struggled for consistency this summer, found conditions similarly tough and also failed to register a mark at 5.51m.

Yet one man who shrugged off the difficulties caused by the inclement weather - and a 30-minute suspension to the competition because of the heavy downpour - was Michalski.

The Pole, who finished seventh at the European Championships in Barcelona, cleared 5.71m at the third time of asking – a height good enough for the victory. He attempted a Polish record of 5.81m but was unsuccessful.

US veteran Derek Miles, 37, called upon all his experience with a successful first time 5.61m clearance which was good enough for second. The final Diamond League point on offer was snared by Michalski’s countryman Przemyslaw Czerwinski, the Europeasn bronze medallist, who finished third courtesy of a first time clearance at 5.51m.

Nice to see Brad Walker back on the circuit ... clearing bars!

Anyone know of any other comps he's done this year? Or ANYTHING about him?
