Just caught the recap on Universal. Looked like Walker and Mesnil both jumped 5.80m (brad's was huge) for 2nd and 3rd. Lavellinie wins it with an absolute BOMB over 5.88m. I think Mazuryk was also over 5.80m for 4th.

Mazuryk needed a good meet to be added to the Ukrainian team so it looks like he'll probably go to the WC now.

http://www.iaaf.org/GP09/news/kind=100/newsid=52362.htmlThe home crowd applauded an always more likely French victory in the men’s Pole vault as Renaud Lavillenie scaled 5.88m on his second attempt. Below him split on 5.80m on countback were USA's 2007 World champion Brad Walker (2nd), silver medallist Roman Mesnil (FRA), and Ukraine’s Maksym Mazuryk. Walker, who took second place by virtue of his first time clearance at that height, moved his campaign directly to 5.95, failed that twice, then went on to 6.02 for his final attempt and retired injured. Lavillenie after clearing 5.88, had three attempts at 6.02m but none were really close.

that doesn't sound good for brad. i agree with coov his 5.80 was BIG, looks like he can jump 6.0m no problem IF hes healthy

Does anyone know Lavillenie's speed in meters per second at the take-off? I haven't seen a vaulter that fast in a LONG time. I think it's possible he'll be the first 10+ mps vaulter.

Plenty have ran over 10mps...Bubka, Gataullin, Huffman, Widen, etc. Only Bubka consistently left bars up running that fast though.
