KATE Dennison insists she is already way ahead of schedule as she bids to become Great Britain's first female Olympic pole vault medallist at London 2012.
FLYING HIGH: Kate Dennison sets another British record at the European Team Championships in Leiria
Fresh from clearing 4.51m in Prague earlier this month and breaking Janine Whitlock's four-year-old British record, the South African-born star raised the bar even further at the European Team Championships on Saturday - clearing 4.55m.
Dennison also excelled indoors this winter and set a new British record of 4.45m at the UK Championships in Sheffield and added a centimetre to that in Birmingham a week later.
The 25-year-old failed to reach the final at the Beijing Olympics but did set a then personal best of 4.40m - but having added 15 centimetres her progress is plain for all to see.
"To get another British record is a fantastic feeling," said Dennison, who helped Great Britain to joint first with Russia after day one of the new-look competition in Leiria, Portugal.
"My coach said to me afterwards ‘I'm looking forward to you setting a British record when you're actually jumping well' so that gives me great confidence for when it all comes together.
"The target for this season was a new British record and now I've done that I'll be looking to go over 4.60m - would represent a fantastic season for me.
"If I can get that and keep going up in blocks of ten centimetres - 4.70m in 2010, 4.80m in 2011 then I'll be up there competing for medals in London and that's the ultimate goal."
Dennison has already booked her place at August's World Championships, courtesy of her 4.51m clearance in Prague and the Loughborough-based athlete believes having that weight off her mind can see her reach dizzy heights in Berlin.
"It's great that I can start thinking ahead and begin my preparations for Berlin early rather than think too much about getting there," she added.
