Athletes rewarded for their success
By Y.P. SIVAM
POLE vault champion Roslinda Samsu was among the beneficiaries of the Higher Education Ministry’s incentive for excellence in sports.
Roslinda, the winner of the silver medal at the Asian Games in Doha last year, was one of seven sports personalities who were rewarded with a laptop at the incentive presentation ceremony held in Bangi recently.
The other six sports were Jivan Mohan (hockey), Rossharisham Roslan (diving), Mohd Azlan Mubin (sepak takraw), L. Kunsilan (karate), Chai Fong Ying (wushu) and Che Chew Chan (taekwondo).

Except for Che, who won the gold medal at the World University Games this year, the others were medal winners at either the 2006 Asian Games or the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Roslinda has also qualified for next year’s Olympics in Beijing.
Higher Education Ministry parliamentary secretary Datuk Dr Adham Baba said they were proud of the achievements attained by the athletes.
“They have proved that they are able to divide their time between studies and sports. They can utilise the laptops for their studies as well as keeping in touch with their superiors when they are overseas for sporting activities. We value their contributions to the nation,â€Â
