Alfred Groom reached impressive heights first as a pole vaulter, then as an entrepreneur who continues to make his mark in the tourism industry

Alfred Groom, both as an athlete and entrepreneur, has always tried to raise the bar.
A multiple Canadian national pole vault champion, Groom has enjoyed lofty success in business.
Lorraine Robinson, Groom’s friend and collaborator on several ventures, describes the president and owner of Garden of the Gulf Court and Motel Incorporated as driven and determined.
“He’s very focused,’’ said Robinson, the former chair of the Western School Board. “If you are in business for yourself, which he is, you have to be focused on where you want to take your business.’’
For Groom, that direction, as was the case in his athletic heyday, is always up. His focus over the years has been to steadily improve the quality of his 94-unit Quality Inn in Summerside â€â€
