So where does she go from here? I don't think 5.02 should be the next stop, but she doesn't consult with me on these things.

A pretty bad miss on her first attempt. But ... she's trying. She says she always tries her best to break the record.

She's consulting with Petrov now. I can't lip-read Russian (heck, I can barely see their lips in this video), but their body language says she's not just going through the motions. I wouldn't say they're completely confident though.

She's trying to get the crowd clapping, but having some trouble. Of course Liu was just on the podium.

Another bad miss. She just plowed into it on the way up.

Hmmm. Evidently she's calling it a night after just two attempts. Well, if the crowd is filing out and she's not on her game, maybe that's for the best.

Pole Vault: The competition didn't get rolling until Svetlana Feofanova cleared her first height at 4.45m, having passed several heights en route to that clearance. By the next height of 4.55m, the medalists were all but decided, with Feofanova clearing the height on her first attempt and World champion Yelena Isinbayeva waiting until the bar was at 4.65m before beginning her night. Asian record holder Gao Shuying of China and Russian Yulia Golubchikova both cleared 4.45m before missing all three attempts at 4.55m, tying them for fourth place. The gold went to Isinbayeva ( 4.83m), with Feofanova following with a 4.75m clearance. Germany's Carolin Hingst came within a centimeter of her three-year-old personal best in taking third place (4.65m). With the rain starting again, Isinbayeva took two tries at a 5.02 World record mark before quitting because of the slickness of the track.

Isinbayeva sets sight on 2008 Beijing Olympics

World record holder Yelena Isinbayeva said she is looking forward to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games after taking an easy win in the women's pole vault in the 2007 Shanghai Golden Grand Prix on Friday.

"Coming to Shanghai this year is very important to me. It gives me inspiration for Beijing. I'm looking forward to better performance next year in Beijing, another world record probably," said the Russian after she won with 4.83 meters.

She tried once but failed to break her world record at 5.02 meters. She gave up two chances at the height.

"It's raining. It's very dangerous to jump under such condition, for one may get hurt easily," said Isinbayeva, who leaves for South Korea on Saturday for another tournament.

Isinbayeva has for 16 times broken the world record.
