SHANGHAI - Pole vault queen Yelena Isinbayeva said today she is confident her world record will fall next year after failing to beat the mark this season.

The Russian, who often boasts she is unbeatable, set the record of 5.01 metres at the Helsinki world championships more than two years ago, and while going close since she has never managed better.

But she is upbeat about her chances of rewriting the history books next year.

"I hope to break the world record in 2008. I know it’s coming," she said, adding that victory was all that mattered at the Golden Grand Prix on Friday.

"There are lots of excellent athletes in this field, many of whom are unknown to many people."

Her Russian teammate Svetlana Feofanova, who won bronze at the world championships in Osaka last month, and fellow compatriot Tatiana Polnova will be her main threats in Shanghai.

Isinbayeva revealed that she wanted to join the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after she retires, following in the footsteps of Ukrainian mentor Sergei Bubka.

"I plan to enter the Olympic Committee after my retirement," she said.

"I will promote the sport of pole vault. It has given me a lot and I feel the responsibility to give back."

The 25-year-old went unbeaten in six consecutive Golden League meetings this season to share a one million dollar jackpot with American 400 metres runner Sanya Richards.

Her 4.91m clearance at the Golden League event in Paris on July 6 remains the best this season with US record holder Jenn Stuczynksi at 4.88m.

The world, Olympic and European champion holds the top 16 jumps in history and was world athlete of the year in 2004 and 2005.

World champions Tyson Gay, Jeremy Wariner, Kenenisa Bekele and Liu Xiang will also feature in the Golden Grand Prix on Friday.
