NEW YORK, N.Y. - Arkansas Razorback freshman Tina Sutej, a pole vaulter on the women's track and field team, tied her nation's senior national record in the pole vault Friday at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational.
Sutej, a native of Ljubljana, Slovenia, cleared 13-9.25 to earn a runner-up finish, to teammate Katie Stripling, in the championship flight at the Armory Track Center on Friday.
Her clearance of 13-9.25 is an NCAA automatic qualifier, ranks ninth on the NCAA list, second on the SEC list, is an indoor personal best and is tied for the fifth-best mark in Arkansas school history.
Sutej was a three-time Junior National Champion in her native Slovenia. During her prep career she competed at the European Indoor Championships in 2007, the World Junior Championships in 2006 and the IAAF World Youth Championships and European Junior Championships in 2005.
She cleared her personalbest outdoor height of 13-11.25 at the World Junior Championships in Beijing in 2006.
