Pole Help

Unread postby Kolber » Sun May 07, 2006 1:09 pm

Im currently jumping on a 13ft 145 girls pole but im holding a foot and a half down on it, even with that grip i still jump w/ my standards all the way back. I weigh about 142, and i keep jumping around 11 ft w/ it, and my coach just oreder a 14 foot 150 pacer, and i was wondering if i would over bend that too much 2, our school has a 13 foot 175 and i was thinking on trying to jump on that

if you're gripping a foot and a half down on the pole and your standards are all the way back, try moving your grip up the pole more, about 1 fist or so at a time. when you do this, move your starting step back about 6" or so too.

make sure your poles are weight equivalent when you switch- 30 lbs is a lot- you better be bending is SILLY to make that switch (145-170). the 150 ought to be good. wait and try it out.

I agree with waiting until you have the 14' 150, just make sure you dont hold too much higher on it at first, it will feel really stiff but that is good. Once you are getting through with that grip start moving it up slowly. Depending on how many steps you are taking, for the time being until the 14' 150 comes, take less steps on the 13 145, so that you arent blowing through the standards. If you are taking 7 lefts (or rights) try it with 5.

if you have any 12' 165-175 poles that should convert nicely with where you are holding, if im not converting wrong.

when you raise your grip up u land shorter it is how pole vaulting works...if u raise ur grip and still are landing deep keep raising it and if ur going to fall off the back of the pit then u are doing something different than what u were doing with the lower grip

even if you do go off the back of the pit with a high grip you will need it because you cant hold that low on a 14 foot pole becuase it would never bend
