running faster, a progression?

Unread postby vaulter870 » Mon Feb 06, 2006 10:30 am

i have gotten alot faster lately and it would seam as though i am running to fast to plan and when i do plant i seam to always be under. i can take up a 14'6'' 150 from 4 lefts that i can only get on a 14'6'' 165 from 6 and seven lefts. as you might imagine this is very frustrating. i have gone back to 4 lefts only because i am having trouble with a normal run. its great to work on this stuff but is there any way the help with this problem

well for me when i run from a shorter run..my run is a lot different you cant bring the same amount of speed so the run will be a lot different...also if you are under, put a towel about 6 inches infront of where u take off and it will push you take off back more so your not inside...i am really fast i run a 4.5 40 and until just recently ive been having trouble with my shoulder and my back because of my take off but now i have a free take off and ive gotten on bigger poles and everything...try it but stay safe

Look at your sprinting mechanics. Many times when a vaulter is under the vaulter uses a high kick and long pushing action with the feet in his/her run. This pulls the hips out from under the vaulter and forces the vaulter to reach on the last step. The foot strike needs to be quick and the feet. The feet need to be pulled forward under the hips rapidly. The feet should remain high as they pass in front of the body stepping over the opposite knee. If the feet are pushing long and kicking higher than the hips behind the body, no matter how much you tell an athlete to lift their knees...it won't happen...and their step will be under.

well i think i lean back trying to plant because i know that i am under. this causing me to be under. but i think that the running mechanics are pretty bad. i think that my run is pretty flat and i dont pick up my feet all that well. i also am interested in the towel thing and i might try this. hopefully some of these things will help with my problem. i also am curious would slide box help with this perticular issue??
