Consistency

Unread postby ACvault » Mon Jan 16, 2006 9:47 am

Hi, I'm a sophomore this year and last year as a freshman I was able do to 8'6 pretty consistently. The first meet of this year I did 8'0 and have been doing that regularly but have only done 8'6 once and on my third attempt. I don't get to practice except for competition because of bad weather and my team rarely gets pits out. Also, sometimes when I go up for my first vault, i easily get my body over but get my arms over to late and knock down the bar. I figured I would get higher once I practiced more and I plan on going to skyjumpers this summer, but for now any advice?

You shouldn't expect to pick up exactly where you left off last year. I learned this the hard way. Two meets and 1 vault practice later and I still have yet to get a good jump in. I'd be ecstatic if I cleared 6" below my PR right now.

That's your whole problem right there. You can't expect to get better if you can't practice. Don't get too frustrated about not getting to where you were last year right off the bat. If meets are the only places you get to jump, then come in at a VERY low height and treat your warm ups and initial jumps as practice. Really try to work on your vault and don't get so concerned about your heights.

What you jump at the beginning of the season is not important. Its what you jump at the end of the season in the meets that mean something.
