After I jump...
It kinda just sucks. I'm stiff polling (almost got 10' yesterday)
I'll put a better video up in a bit, but for now, heres a good laugh of my very hideous form...

Every single one of my jumps was like that yesterday, and its really starting to get on my nerves that it comes out like that. I'm fine up until the point where I let go of the pole...
That and I know my left arm goes on the wrong side of the pole...which may be why I'm so screwed up. Anyways, I'll see if I can find a better video, but ya gotta admit its kinda funny....

You're worse than I am when it comes to looking at the cross bar on the way up. Play that thing (video) in slow motion and see that your head never goes back. The higher you go the more your head comes forward to see where the cross bar is and therefore pushes your body down so you can't turn and push. I do it all the time and it's one of the main reasons I don't get verticle or in a position to make the turn and push at the top. There's plenty that you're going to have to do to correct this but to start, try looking up at the top of the pole after you take off. Later..................Mike
Yeah looking at the bar can really REALLY throw a vaulter off. But remember, when you do look back, or however you decide to look. DONT throw your head back. I think the drill in the 70's or whenever, was to vault and have someone stand on the runway and put up some fingers and the vaulter would throw there head back and see how many fingers they were holding up. BAD NEWS right there.
Just you wait...

I'm actually not sure. I was holding at the same height for my 10" jump...I'll find out later at practice (maybe).
My coach kept saying I was doing (It starts with an H, whatever the High jumpers usually do) - not pretty, but it worked...i guess.
Its a 14'6" pole, so 10' seems about right...
Heres me on my second attempt at the 10', the last one came out horrible, as my friend missed me for most of it when taking it.

You must keep in mind when vaulting...the pole and your top hand is your support. From your very first move coming off the ground, you are driving your knee, hips and leef foot at the crossbar with no attention to where your top hand and support is. You need to learn how to control your swing. You can see some drills how to do that in http://advantageathletics.com/2005/?page_id=70
In your video you swing out past your pole. You first want to swing your shins up to your top hand, not the crossbar. Learn to swing up to your pole without pulling with your top hand. Keep trying to get to that position and land on your back on the pit. When you can reach that position when your pole is vertical start going over bars again.

Find any thread that explains Bubba Sparks "face your demons" game or go to www.bubbapv.com and find it there. Start doing it at practice NOW! You need to start over with this. The longer you keep doing what you are doing the longer it will take to correct it. I am in no way being mean spirited here but from where I am watching I see a chain of events that makes a bad jump get worse as it progresses. To be able to make 10 feet jumping the way you do certainly tells me you are a pretty good athlete but 10 feet is going to be it until you correct that jump of yours. Get the book Beginner to Bubka and start from the beginning and re-learn how to do this correctly. You do have time to get it done. Do It! We're counting on you. Good luck........Mike
P.S. And do everything that Advath says in the above thread.

Alrite, thanks.
On Thursday and Friday, my team shoudl be gettin the pits out, but I hate vualting in the cold...so inconsistent. In practice, I can do the invert decently, except that my left arm goes on the other side of the pole. During an actual run, my last step tends to stride out, my left arm collapses as soon (if not sooner) as I hit the box, goes on the wrong side, and being too far in causes my top arm to slide.
Should be an interesting two practices...Guess its best to learn on the stiff pole that I'm using though, as rushing the bend is suicide at my point.
Thanks guys! I just have to drill this stuff into my head when I vault, because well, all I worry about is the bar, and all my form goes bad...
Alrite, and stupid question: With the Facing Your Demons, are you supposed to just run from a 6 step and just make sure you don't step on the mid step or the take off mark?

Alrite, just one stupid question. Today, in practice, since we never got the pit out, my coach just had me doing run throughs to get my mark on - I couldn't leave until I hit there a bunch of times.
The problem is, is that my runback was a sprint, while when I was doing the runthroughs it felt as though I was going slower - even though I was hitting perfectly on, and he said I was going quick...

heres a few more I guess, for good laughs and stuff...
Outdoor season seems the next real time I'll be able to practice vaulting, so no real improvement will be done (unless I can stop myself from striding and just stomp my foot down and take off...)

I'm the biggest vaulter we've got; not the first guy either. Man, my outdoor vaulting team is gonna be weird: 3 asians, a black kid, and maybe some white people...doesn't look like it though Hooray for minorities!
And on the video, the jump around 1:17 was both bad and good. Apparently thats the most inverted that I got last Saturday, and its the farthest I got into the pit...but man, landing on my shoulder/neck...
