I'm in a Bit of a Pickle

Unread postby JTred » Tue Jan 10, 2006 11:21 pm

I have a meet tomorrow that's a one-and-done meet. I went to practice tonight and only got one good jump in out of like 10. It either felt wrong as I was coming down the runway and I bailed or my run-up was inconsistent I was too far under. I'm on a new pole, a 13' 145# SkyPole. Gripping down 3 handholds, so like 9". I was on a 13' 150# Spirit at Camp, gripping about 2 handholds (6") down. My problem is I can only do one event, and my coach wants me to long jump, but it's still my choice. My options are:
Stay where I'm at and hope I get my steps right
Move to a 12' 140# Mystic that I was capping last year
Go to the top (or near the top) of the SkyPole to try to get it to bend like a 145 instead of a 160
Long Jump, a sure thing

I'm not going to place in either even most likely, since the lowest placing gets either 11' (pole vault) or 20' (Long Jump) and unless I have a miracle in pole vault, I won't get either of those. I weigh just a tad under 140. Tonight was my second time vaulting since camp, which was about 6 months ago. I'll try and get to this in the morning, If I can't I'll have to decide for myself.

You haven't jumped in awhile, so you're not going to be where you were before.

You were getting rejected by the pole, raising your grip will only make that worse.

I would use the 12'140. If you are blowing through go to a shorter run. If you blow through from the shorter run, then try backing up to your long run and hitting the 13'145.

Actually I would probably just do long jump until you get it all figured out :P
