if I kept my trail leg straight and didn't roundhouse plant?

By the way the pole is a 13'6" 150, I'm gripping about 6" down I think. I'm not sure the exact bungee height. It was somewhere between 10" and 11'. Also, the coach gave me a tap, but he didn't really push me he just touched my back. I think it's a camp safety thing, my regular coach deosn't do that.

i think what you first should correct is getting your turn. At the top, you have no turn, and your back is touching the bungee. Research this site and you can find many things to help you with that. Also, you should definitly focus on extending your arms fully out while planting, once again many different spots on this site show that. I used to look just like this while vaulting, and fixing these two things can be an amazing help.

Hope that helps

If you learn to go up the pole you could go at least 13'6 on that pole.
Pole Vaulting isn't a sport. It's a lifestyle.

you're trying to pull yourself up the pole, let your hips rise to your hands

If you need to be tapped to get in the pit then you need to lower your grip.
There is no need to be touched by another person to get into the pit.

He's not really giving me a tap, it's a camp safety thing he did it for everyone, all he did was touch my back. He didn't actually apply any force.

If he didnt apply pressure then why was he touching your back?
Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them-a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill. - Muhammad Ali

Regardless of the tap, which I am apposed to at any level, it looks like you are dropping your knee drive a little and aren't completing the swing with a straight trail leg like you mentioned in your original post. Didn't see that much of a "round-house" at the plant. You will probably go to the left if you do that.

The top should be the last of your worries right now. You seem to be aggressive at the take-off, which is crucial to progressing in the pole vault.

My advice is to keep working on the fundamentals (i.e. big knee drive, straight trail leg) on your stiff pole drills and to throw rocks at anyone who tries to give you a tap.
