So, when you're practicing inverting, is it best to practice on a rope or a suspended straight pole?

We do it with a suspended straight pole (I don't really know what shape it would be in otherwise
). However, our coach also has us linked up to a harness to help us pull through and extend off of the top (lol, just did this today for the first time in a while), so I guess that it would probably be whatever is most comfortable and safest for you.
I like the pole because your arms are in a position exactly like when you invert on a vault. I think that our pole is just a piece of a broken pole with a plug on the bottom, and then a rope is strung through it.

i just grip it and rip it, practice right there while falling into the pit. Have a good knowledgeable coach there with you, and you cant really go wrong. Oh i also do work with just rocking back on monkey bars.

my coach made a pretty cool training device. it is a pulley where you strap your feet in on one end of the rope, and hold onlt a piece of pole on the other end of the rope. it makes it so you can get inverted and push off the pole and everything without falling, its pretty cool. looks like some kind of turture device though:) lots of straps and ropes

ummmm that device sounds like the pole vault pulley that you can buy at almost any track and field store. We made one at our school because we didnt want to spend 200.00 to have one sent to us.

I wouldn't mind knowing what materials you used to build this pulley thing. A few of our athletes could use it!

Go here
