Vertical Too Late?
Okay, at practice today, i was jumping just like i normally would. But i noticed that when i would get completley upside down, or what i mean is completley parallel to the pole, i was already on the other side of the bar, so there was no chance of me getting over it. I dont thing i am blowing through it though. Should i grip higher? I was thinking of pop-ups when this happend. when you grip lower, you have less hang time and kind of just run through the pop-up you could get parallel to the pole, but not upside down. When you hold higher, you get the opportunity to get upside down and parallel to the pole. Am i making sense or am i just jibber jabbering?
Just you wait...

It sounds like you are most defiitely blowing through....... If you're hitting the bar on the way up, and it feels like you are getting to the bar too fast, try going up a pole and raising the grip two or three fingers. Take notes of where you are landing, and where you have your standards (for consistency's sake, you can't lose by keeping them at 30 inches all the time.) The reason you can't lose, is that it gives you instant feedback of what is going on! If the pole is too big, or you have a poor takeoff, you'll hit the bar on the way down! If the pole is too small, you might hit it on the way up, but at least you know without a shadow of a doubt that you can SAFELY move to the next pole. Now lets say you have your standards on 14.........You hit the bar on the way up, but just a little. You go up a pole, get a little tentative, back off on the takeoff, now guess where your at??? In the box is probably the correct answer. What I am getting at here is that keeping them at 30 WILL take alot of the guesswork out, because after all, the last thing we need is one more variable! Why not eliminate that variable? Keep the standards deep and you will be much safer, smarter, and it will provide you instant unwavering feedback of what your decision should be for the next attempt

Mecham, i'm gonna have to say you're blowing through the pole, too. I know all this year i've been vaulting with the standards at 30-31 and nailing it on the way up all the time. I'm also vaulting on a pole 10-15 pounds over my body weight. Whenever i cleared anything, i had to totally ditch a nice long, sweeping trail leg and basically try to do a backflip off the takeoff to get vertical in time to clear it.
Also, how many lefts are you going from? My coach suggested me dropping from 6 lefts to 5 so i wouldn't be destroying my pole every jump. I'd say use a pole 10 lbs or so heavier but the same length.
