What next?

Unread postby Mecham » Wed May 11, 2005 4:06 pm

Okay, after doing everything that everyone has told me to do and stuff, im confused on how/what to do next. I can get upside down/vertical easily, i just dont know what to do next. Im trying to get a new video of me, cause the old one sucks. But i can almost kick 17' on my 13' pole, i just want to be able to get over big hieghts. So how do i turn over and get that wicked sweet super man push off?
Just you wait...

OK Altius, after seeing this several times without understanding it, I finally found a translation on the web and I think I now know what you are saying. ;)

Yep, time for more video. Are you now clearing the bar? If so what height and by how much? Are you kicking 17' with your toes or with your heels? Toes?.....not so good....on your way but not the optimum. Heels?......look out TMack and Toby...Mecham's coming! Answer these Q's for us. It'll let us know better how you're doing before we get a new video to really see. When you do a video, give us one of you kicking the 16-17 feet and one where you're actually clearing one of higher heights. We'll all get to work on it. Later........Mike

Yup. So in pole vaulting terms, lots of small things done right will add up to a great jump!

I've gotten over a 16' bungee twice, i brought it down only a few inches. or alteast thats what Reg (my coach) said. But i had to get it with my heels to really get over it. Im not pointing my toes if thats what you mean? Or atleast i dont think so.

By catching it with your heels that means (to me anyway) that you're turning. I've seen so many of the kids now a days clearing the bar with their butts down instead of up. Which, if you were hitting it with your toes that would tell me you're not in a position to push off. In other words, the middle of your body is not over the bar and you looking down at the runway which means you can't push off the rest of the way. If you're kicking with the sides of your feet or the side of one foot or the heel of one foot you haven't completely turned and once again not in the position to push straight down which will launch you up and over the bar. Keep in mind if your feet are in the air 17' and your vertical or fully inverted, and you're say 5'7" that means that at least one part of your body that could knock the bar down is at 11"3 to 11"6. If you just flop at the top and come down you make 11"3" to 11'6". (Ok, you get my point here I hope). If you got that stiff left arm at take off deal figured out that we saw on the video and your bungie jumping is up there (by the way, didn't we all tell you to start jumping with a crossbar?) then all that's left is at the top of the jump and push off. I may be wrong because I haven't seen your latest video or how you're jumping now. But I can tell you that if you focus on things to get the top right , and, you do it the same way everytime, then it's just a matter of steps, poles, and speed. Simple event, this jumping with a stick.....don't you think? Later.................Mike

Mecham,

I would suggest that you visit beginnertobubka.com, which happens to be the website of Altius, and look at the articles; especially "bubka-unique". There it speaks of a continuous chain of energy, the same energy you will need to put into the system, to later exploit it and get the kind of height you are looking for. As master has translated it is truely simple things done extraordinarily well!
