Straightpoling problems!

OK, I'm guessing this is a rare problem, but who knows. When I do 3-step straightpole drills (just to plant, swing through, get inverted, and hold the invert), I have lately been completely unable to do them. My body goes up and refuses to stay on the right side of the pole, no matter what I do, and I end up splitting my legs on either side of the pole in sort of an upside-down crouch. My step isn't under and I'm holding at the same place as when I was able to do this drill. As soon as I hold higher on the pole and bend it, my form is fine and I get upside down on the right side of the pole. Has anybody else had this problem of not being able to stay on the right side of the pole while straightpoling, and how did you fix it?

Simplest solution is to stop doing the drill - you sound as though you are describing the 'rock back drill'. This is one of the worst drills you can do -it generates many bad habits. it should be eliminated from pole vault training everywhere!!
