Bending the Pole

I just started and I was just wondering how long it took most people to learn to bend the pole. I haven't really seen any other girls that I've competed against bend it much. I'm the top pole vaulter in my school, for girls, because we don't have much of a program yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks:)

Bending the pole gets easier as you go along, you just have to focus on doing it. As you raise your right arm (assuming your right handed), extend your left arm and push out and up at the same time.....force the bend to happen. It took me about 4 weeks to start to bend a pole, but once you get that bend, and you ride it up its an awesome feeling. Good luck

i started vaulting last year and i began utilizing the bend toward the end of the season, but now i'm really comfortable with bending the pole. i even had to move up to a stiffer pole because i was getting too much of a bend!!

Thanks, I've tryed a few times but every time I try to do it I freak out and bail after my pole hits the box. But I guess I'll just keep trying, I hope it comes soon...

You can't have fear in pole vault. The pole feeds of fear, i swear. When i got my new 14' 155, i was scared it would reject me, well, i bent it, and my bottom hand slipped of, and the snapped back breaking my ribs.
