Ok, heres my problem. When I vault I can't force my body to get vertival or to pike enough i always go over the bar and throw myself over. I have no form I need to fix this and soon. My highest vault so far is ten feet six inches but ive only vaulted twice. I need to be at fourteen feet by the end of may. If u guys have any thing that can help me let me know and i would be very greatful. I am told I am one of the fastest vaulters the coaches have ever seen and that i begin to stutter step or dont fullly extend my arm enough above me i like to ben it. How do i break this bad habit?

well, speed is key in the vault, be thankful thats something many of us lack...

How many lefts are you taking? If your stutter stepping your wasting your energy and cheating your self a nice flowing takeoff which is also key, my advice would be to start out with fewer steps, like a 4 left approach and focus on that top arm and when your confident enough move to 5.
Do some high bar drills like Bubka's, sliding box, wall plants, 3 left drills.

But honestly drills, experience and patience will get you what u need, just make sure you learn everything the right way or you'll pay later in you career for draggin around bad habits. good luck ;)

wow u have like the same exact problem that i do. i have the fastest runway speed in my competition, and the fastest highschool speed that my coach has seen. but when i get to the pit i stutter step and lose most of my speed, then when i plant my left arm doesnt go straight. i have gotten a lot of tips on this problem. for fixen the stutter step i was told to i stutter step cuz ive got my pole out to the right and im headin of to the right when i get closer to the pit. are u in the middle of the track when u plant ? but it could just be that ur not trusting ur step. so maybe workin on ur step might help. and with the hand bending...ya i cant bend the pole because i cant get it to go straight, but this is what im working on now and i was told to get a really small pole and take short runs and work on getting ur arm straight and repeat it then u should be able to do it in a long run.

don't worry about getting to 14 feet right now, I would suggest starting at 3 lefts and work on form and as you start getting through poles(depending on what your school has) move back a left and then it increases your speed and gets you to go slightly higher, then back up once you do well at that and keep progressing back, next thing you kno, you are doing 7 or 8 lefts and have good form and aren't stutter stepping. The 14 will come but don't focus solely on that.

Pole Runs, repetition of pole runs, and more pole runs!!!!

Think about running with correct technique (knee drive, good posture, relaxed face and upper body)

You should take a 5 or 6 step approach on the track and get your steps then when you're comfortable and your step is on move it onto the runway and run the exact same way.

And then of course just grip it and rip it!
word.

Something that really helped my run was compeltly breaking it down and starting over. It was during the summer so i had time, but i would everyday start by doing 3 step walking plants with a stuby and then 4 and 5 and 6. Then slowly speeding it up, start with a jog and get faster. Do these untill u can't do em any more. What you need now is to really become comfortable with your run and get it ingained into your head.

ok so i actually fixed my stutter stepping yesterday YAY! so maybe the same thing might help u. ok so i started at the very end of the run way and my coach stood in an area that looked like a good distance for my full run. then i ran thru once and he marked where my left foot hit near him. then i would keep running thru but not look at the mark. i did it over and over and i hit my left foot in the exact mark everytime. so we measured from where i started to where my foot hit. then we took that measurement from the pit. this distance became my full run step. i went for a full run and did not stutter step and it was prolly my best jump ever. and everytime i jumped after that i didnt stutter step once. ohh ya and it helped with my left arm bending, its still bent a bit but not as much. so try this and see if it helps u too.
