Having Issues PR-ing

Unread postby Gracie.J » Sun May 01, 2011 2:41 pm

I've been easily clearing 8'6" in practices and I have cleared nine a couple of times, but my PR has been stuck at seven since August. My form is really good but my speed is...lacking to say the least. (I was a distance runner until this year.) Is there anything I should try? My coach says I'm in my head too much but I don't really know how to get out of it.

(I'm a sophomore in high school and have pretty bad shin splints if either of those help.)

It's all in your head. Relax, take a deep breath and just have some fun and vault!

Are you practicing with a bungee? Make sure to practice with a real bar sometimes :)

My daughter was in a sort of funk for about four weeks this season due to sinus issues, during which time she was jumping fourteen inches UNDER her PR. This past weekend at regionals, now "cured", she PRed by seven inches, and would have PRed by probably eighteen, had there been a bar at that height when she jumped. A week ago, she got a new, longer pole that she was very comfortable using. During the meet, she stayed out of the sun, stayed hydrated, and relaxed between jumps, and it made all the difference.

I think the relaxed part was the most important thing, however...
