GRRR!!

Unread postby mcminkz05 » Fri Mar 12, 2004 9:38 pm

ok, now if sitting at the exact same height for a whole season isnt frustrating, i dunno what is... especially when you have the ability to be jumping tons higher..  ok, so the problem is, iv been told millions of times that if i can vault with great tech from a short run (4 letfs or so), then i should be able to do it from a normal run (7+ lefts).. well, i must be doing something horribly wrong, or missing something, because that isnt happening. I can right now jump 2' higher stiff-poling from 4 lefts than i can grippin high and takin a full run  . I can clear 13' grippin 11' from 4 lefts, but grippin 14' from 7 i cant clear anywhere NEAR that high.. my swing just kinda stops, or never even starts, and rather than bein inverted like in shot run, im coming at the bar like in a friggen sitting position!! I didn always have this, it kinda started after i changed my plant from collapsed, to arms out and up high like it should be. Iv spent the WHOLE indoor season N/H'ing, as iv completely changed my plant, and takeoff. The swing just disappeard, or thers something really crucial im forgetting.. BTW im grippin about 13-8 on a 14' pole from full runs.. i have a guess thats its a timing thing, but im not sure what exactely the timing would be off on.. my best guess would be soemthing to do w/ my bottom arm in relation to the beginning of my swing.. because doin stiff pole short run, that seems to be the biggest change from the full run.. if anyone might have any clue whats goin on, or has ANYTHING at all thatl help, PLEASE HELP MEEEE!!!! (sry about the lengthy post, but i tried to explain in detail)

Sounds to me like 6 steps would be a real good idea.

yeah, tried it. i guess anything longer than 4 lefts or more specifically HIGHER grip and gripping high enough that im not stiff-poling seems to be the problem.. i mean sure i could just use a 4 step run, and jump 12-13', but then i wouldnt be makin any progress. im probably wrong, but it seems like higher grip combined with the added bend in the pole is really throwing something off.. if only i knew what, lol

It sounds like you're blocking out your swing with your left arm. When you plant from a full run do you push your left arm up by your head or more out in front?

that was allot of what i spent indoor season changing.. my plant is good now, my bottom arm is up by my head, not out in front.. a possiblitiy though, is that im blocking myself after the plant? my arms stay stiff throuhg out my swing, which may cause a problem on a shorter pole, like the 14' one i use.. all the other hs guys i watch on same size poles break their bottom arm in the beginning of their swing.. i dont do that.

I thought you were supposed to collapse the bottom arm after you plant n take off otherwise your swing will be forcing agianst your top arm,Wouldnt keeping the left arm striaght make your body lever agianst your top arm?

I don't have a lot of time to post an exp. but you essential found your own problem. you are blocking w/ the bottom arm as you swing.

Once you feel like flex loaded and the pole start to unbend and your swing to be needed CAVE in that lower arm
Just keep it striaght for the plant..

so your basically saying its a timing thing, (which is suspected in the first place).. its hard though to actually TRY to let my arm break in at a certain point.

if you don't let your arm collapse you're going to have problems when you get inverted also. Your body will come away from the pole and lose alot of energy out of the pole. I had this problem myself last year, well i didn't know that i had a problem until i got to camp, but once you start collapsing your arm getting inverted and staying tight to the pole. You will get alot more energy out of the pole. Plenty of odd things we need to practice and learn.
