foot switchers

Unread postby IndyCoach » Fri Apr 13, 2007 10:21 am

I have two girls this year who like to switch take off feet. They are right handed, but want to jump off their right foot. I have tried teaching them left handed, but they aren't comfortable with that. The one girl wil actually jump better when jumping off the right foot (wrong leg) than when she takes off correctly. When she is one with her left seh wil chop her right down and jump off of it, so it isn't a step problem. Just looking for some ideas.

If they do enough pole runs, switching hands will start to feel more comfortable, especially for the girl that jumps better off her right foot.

that's how I started out...I was right handed until I realized that I jump off my right. I switched to lefty, which was awkward at first, but after a few weeks it got easier and easier. I think it would be better for her in the long run to switch to lefty.

use my "MID" chart, do track ple runs and put them on correct rythm.. and you should "defeat" the problem..

100% ambidextrous?

Last time I tried vaulting right handed was about a year ago, and I jumped 12-6. I guess that would make me semi-ambidextrous...

it is about 95% because i can clear 12'6 left and 13-13'6 right handed

worked the mid mark chart and we are good. We did a lot of vaults into the LJ pit yesterday and one was much more comfortable and started to get more aggressive on her swing. The otehr one will still chop her steps or lunge to get to the right foot. So we switched hands and she switched feet! SO when she jups left handed she takes off on her left foot, when she jumps right handed she takes off on her right foot. I am abou tto tell her to go to the LJ and forget the PV.
