Standards at 24. (girl jumper) You clear 8' , 8.5' , 9' using the same pole. At 9.5' your coach tells you to putt standards at 30. Then you hit bar on the way down. Do you put them back at 24 or leave them?

move them foward to the point of her peak where she seems to be at the highest point in her vault. Stardards are hard to judge from meet to meet for me because of the different poles and adrenilen and for me it varys between meets and poles. you just have to work with them.

Depends on what happened at 9'. If I had a vaulter almost hit it on the way up, and I knew they tended to get amped up and hit it harder as the bar got higher, I might put them back at 30.

The coach may see that she is getting further into the pit (better pole speed) and want to move them back. Because the vaulter comes down on the crossbar, doesn't mean it was a bad decision, it may have been a bad vault (steps, plant swing). Second, the coach may see that it is time for the athlete to get on a bigger pole and wants to make sure the vaulter has enough pole speed, dictated by depth into the pit (or standard placement), to ensure the vaulters safety before making the move.
