I don't know about the 2-mile training runs, though. Maybe as a recovery run occasionally, but not as a speed workout!
You've got to do some speedwork to be the best you can be in the pole vault. If you're having hamstring issues... you need to resolve them! Could be a muscle imbalance... overly strong quads, not enough hamstring... maybe do some lunges to help with the hammy strength (but don't do them if you're already injured).
