I think the best thing I have heard is that it is pole vaulting not pole bending. In other words you should not worry so much about blocking your arm out and bending the pole as you should about moving the pole to vertical. In order to effectivley move the pole to vertical you must have good speed on the runway (which you may or may not be able to achieve from 3 lefts) and you must jump up at plant. I used to block out really badly too and then we started doing a stiff pole vault where we just worked on jumping and pushing the pole to vertical from three lefts and we kept raising our handgrip to see how high we could hold. This helped me a lot. According to my coach Bubka could do the drill we do holding at i think 14 feet.
This year your gonna have to work twice as hard.
