Popups are a good drill, IF you're doing them right. You can read about what makes them such a misused drill in BTB2 if you've got it. Often, the vaulter will 'slide' off the ground without finishing their take-off. If you do keep using this drill, have your coach only worry about your take-off being completely finished until it's second nature for you.

well when i do them in my view
i see my trail leg swinging just looking forward, then i look up and try to thrust my hips and bring my top to my crotch :X
most of the pop ups i land on my back

Is this 'view' WHILE you're vaulting? Get some good side-angle video and THEN you can decide if you're really finishing your take-off.
