Four days ago i was vaulting on a 14' 6" 170 pacer carbon from 7 lefts and i snapped it in half, my coach said i didnt jump off the ground at all, which is very unusual for me and its only the second pole i've broken in my career ( the last one was like 6 years ago and it was an 11 footer). Anyways iam only 5'9 140lbs and i snapped a 170! so was it a one time thing? just one of those freakish accidents that rarely happens?
Iam only concerned because its 2 weeks until reno and i dont have anymore 14'6" poles to vault on, i've been making my way to 15's but have only done a few easy jumps on them this year so far, so i guess it means i HAVE to get on those 15's since i dont have anything else? a sign from the gods maybe? telling me iam suppose to be on the big poles now? i'll keep telling myself that lol.
How to avoid snapping poles?

A spike mark or a nick from falling and hitting the standards can cause a pole to break if enough surface area of the pole is removed. Carbon poles are made with less fiberglass since the carbon layer is stronger than fiberglass. Any nick or ding to a carbon pole is more likely to cause a breakage than a pure fiberglass pole because there is less pole thickness there.

Because too many people believe the more you bend a pole the higher you will jump.
I was actually taught to pull on the top hand by my coach, yeah, i'm suprised I haven't broken a load of poles, after finding this site i've realized that my coach doesn't know anything.
