Idk why.. but it's really frustrating, but lately I've been bailing out on a lot of my jumps. I think it's becuase of my arms when I plant, but Idk why I'd be planting that badly and inconsistently. I've been working on it a lot lately and it's been fine. My shoulders have been square and not rotating as I plant, and everytime I'm at a meet jumping... I have this problem and I have to bail out everytime. I took 6 jumps today during our individuals meet and cleared 11 on my first, 11'6" on my second and went out at 12 (which is usually an easy height for me, i just started early b/c of the conditions).
Any thoughts please? thanks.

actually I had this same problem with bailing out on my vaults, it was mostly in practice and not in meets but I did have this problem.
It's mostly a mental thing. You probably think something is wrong with your arm or different but it's all in you head.
What I would suggest is just keep vaulting the same and try to work threw it. Like in practice, make yourself finish your vaults no matter how it might feel just to get that feeling out. Well that's at least what I would suggest

mind over matter. You have to admit that whatever happens, happens, but trust the coaches and people around you when they tell you something to do. My step was consistently under by a foot for a long time, because i had broken i pole jumping way outside before, and i was hesitant and wouldnt even jump when my step was right on. Then you just tell yourself, "self, if i do this right, it will be easier, so even though it wont feel comfortable do it anyway". It takes time, but it builds self discipline... good luck!

I get what you're saying, but it's tough to know what to try and fix b/c noone around during meets usually knows anything about pole vaulting. So basically I have to try and figure stuff out on my own. It sucks.

That is really rough.... the best thing you can do is either seek out a coach from another school even, that might be willing to give you some encouragement, or even someone on your team. Luckily for me, i have a coach from a different school who helps me when we are at the same meets, and it makes a world of a difference. If no one is there to help you, try to trust yourself, though. thats tough man i dont know what else to say.LHSpolevault wrote:
