Right, very good drill!
For even a smaller step if that one is difficult, a strait pole invert and land on your left hip in the pit with the pole tight along the front of your body.
Then, when that is easy, try to turn the rest of the way to land on your stomach.
The littler and simpler the steps you take to reach your objective the easier that objective will be. (If you have the time to take these little steps.)
Good luck!

Maybe I wasn't supposed to eat those paint chips?

:o i am a polevaulter and i know how you feel. i am vaulting at 6 foot 6 but i know that if i can just get my turn down i could make it to 7 foot. please help me. (try to make it simple wording)
My PR is no limit! i just try as hard every time and if i get a new one.. good for me. but i still need to try just as hard! am i right?!
the way i learned since at first i would turn to the right instead of left were rope drills...if u can find a rope(like a climbing rope) and hold onto it like u would a pole...to start just swing up and get inverted(holding the rope with ur feet so u dont fall and can hold that position for a while) then go down after about 5 seconds(also be sure to look over ur left shoulder and drop ur shoulders) do that about 3 times then ur goin to do that motion but like a whole vault so ur going to swing up to inversion then using the momentum from swinging up ur going to start ur turn and push off the rope...to start for this dont get all the way inverted just get ur legs up about to where ur shoulders are if u were to stand straight up then turn and land then as u get used to it get higher and higher til ur completely inverted doing this drill also be sure to land on ur feet and on some sort of mat(nothing lumpy so u dont somehow mess up ur ankles)
heres a site that describes it with pictures as well as a bunch of other drills u can do

The turn is not an action that you do specifically. It is a result of the correct use of the arms. You've probably seen some of TMack's comments on how active the arms have to be in order to gain the correct position on the pole while inverting. Well, the action doesn't stop. There aren't stages of using the arms. It's one smooth dynamic event. The turn comes naturally when you pull past your grip while being inverted. Even if your body isn't in perfect position your turn will come if you are active with your arms. You don't pull then push. You pull through into a release. The faster you move the arms the more distance you will cover.....the higher you will go...

You're trying to jump the bar. Instead concentrate on the mechanics of the vault and try to execute them. You'll go much higher than you can imagine if you take this approach. Actually, nothing should be going through your mind. Just execute!~

Try practicing turning over the bar. Start with it low, and don't count it as a make unless you turned over the bar.
